In the past few years, many of the remarkable plaster products
and processes, which were developed to an art form over centuries in
Italy, have become available for use in the United States. This has
proven to be a boon for architects and designers who prefer to work
with honest materials that have inherent beauty which, when sensitively
presented, displays itself in the finished product. These plasters are
often seen to complement the more architectural materials of wood and
stone in much the same way that a fine wine complements a well-prepared
meal.
We think the wine analogy is particularly apt and not just because we are based in the heart of
California wine country. The role that the artisan plasterer plays in recognizing and developing
the unique characteristics of his materials is very similar to that of a wine maker, working in
an informal way to bring out the distinctive qualities of each harvest, knowing when to blend for
desired effect and when to allow simplicity to rule; when to intrude on the natural process and
when to let it be.
TerraBriosa Artisan Plaster is one of the few companies in this country that emphasizes delivering high-end
plaster finishes in a format that is based on involvement from initial concept through installation. We enjoy being
a part of the conceptual process initially, then following through with an installation that is a full realization of
that design intent.
Our installations range from commercial projects in Silicon Valley and the Hudson River Valley to retail stores such
as Pottery Barn, Escada and Hermes around the country. Whether it's working with architects like Walker/Moody and
designers Tuckers & Marks on the Fisher Residence in San Francisco or with Babey Moulton Jue & Booth to
actualize their design for the Matsura restaurant at the Hyatt Regency in Santiago, Chile; we continue to use
our knowledge of these traditional building materials in new and creative ways to realize both our own creative
interest and those of our clients. |
